Pediatric Anesthesiologist
Montgomery, New Jersey
Hi everyone.... I’m a pediatric anesthesiologist at a major teaching hospital and trauma center in New Jersey. I also routinely care for all adult type patients. Day to day (and overnight), during this pandemic, I am providing care in the operating room for urgent and emergent patients as well as intubating patients that are known COVID+. I have been a tireless and outspoken advocate for universal N95 respirators for all hospital staff, not just doctors, nurses involved in COVID care in the ICU or ER, but for techs, PT, OT, RT, janitors, food service, security, etc. I have witnessed too many in hospital outbreaks that are the direct result of this lack. Surgical masks seem fine to admins, but what they don’t see, and understand is that if we work under the assumption that everyone is sick, and force staff back to work when asymptomatic but still shedding virus, these transmissions will continue. I have a wife and two younger children who are worried for my safety every day, and know the risks because I’ve been so vocal about my concerns about the mishandling of this situation at every level.

Interventional Cardiology Fellow
Somerville, Massachusetts
Hi, I am an interventional Cardiology Fellow in the Boston area. Due to the surge of sick pts and the growing number of sick providers, I have volunteered to work as an MD in the ED and ICU. When not doing emergency procedures in the cath lab I’ll be in the ED and ICU directly caring for pts there. We in the cath lab as well as the ED/ICU are in direr need of N95s. We are currently rationing masks only to the highest risk procedures and reusing well beyond manufacturers recommendations (one mask per provider indefinitely!) Any N95s are greatly appreciated. Outside work I am the father of 2 (5yo adorable and feisty redhead and a pretty adorable 2.5yo boy). They are the lights of my life, help me get through tough times and the reasons for my existence.

Community-In-Home Nursing Care
Cambridge, Ontario
Working in community, providing direct in-home nursing care to some of those most-vulnerable folks. Community does require nurses to work alone and depend on PPE being readily available and in our vehicles. Despite news broadcasts stating that we have enough PPE that's absolutely not true. We have already experienced a shortage on masks, both n95's and surgical, hand sanitizer and face shields. Almost all new PPE will he shifted to hospitals and that will leave us community nurses at a definite deficit. Any donations will be put to use immediately. Thank you for arranging this and keeping my fellow nurses safe.

Registered Nurse, VA Hospital
Hauppauge, New York
Hi there! My name is Heather, I’m filling out this form for my dad, Paul. My dad used to be a police officer/firefighter/paramedic, but went back to school at age 40 to become a nurse. He is currently an RN at the VA hospital in Northport on Long Island. He has been working in their oncology department for a few years, giving cancer patients chemo, but when the pandemic struck, he answered the call and volunteered to help out with COVID19 patients despite potentially being at risk himself. He’s currently working in the “garage” which is the receiving area for those suspected of having COVID19, examining each patient and getting those in more serious condition to the ER. As you can imagine, folks are scared, so it’s a lot of calming down patients and their families as well. On his shift, he’s the only one working in the garage. Outside of work, he is a huge history buff, especially around American history. Ask him anything about any of the presidents and he will know it! He’s also learning bass guitar and trying to learn Spanish through Duolingo. But his greatest joy of all is being a dad to me and my two brothers—he is constantly bragging about us so it’s nice to brag about him for a change. He’s our hero.

Resident - Children's Hospital
Hershey, Pennsylvania
I’m a resident at a children’s hospital. For as long as I can remember, I’ve wanted to make the world a better place, but with so much suffering in the world, how would I be able to contribute? What path could I take that would allow me the chance to serve, heal and advocate for the sick and those in need? I chose medicine. Becoming a medical doctor empowered and equipped me to use science and new discoveries to decrease and sometimes resolve illness and pain. Taking the oath to first, do no harm reminds me daily the weight and responsibility of the practice of medicine and its power to change lives for the better. Pediatrics provides me the best opportunity to do more than first, do no harm. It is about the practice of science on medicine's youngest patients - infants, toddlers and adolescents. Pediatric medicine is also about advocacy. Everyone's story is different. Our gifts, passions, experiences and talents are not only what make us unique, but as physicians, they help us relate to our patients in a positive way.
